Football is back!

3 min read

At last! The much-anticipated return of football is upon us, and with it comes the excitement of resuming my cherished routine of watching matches late into the night, a tradition that will kick off next week. At last! The football is back and my usual routine of watching until the early hours will start next week. If i am working on a book or blog I will

write 6 pm until 8pm. Watch football until 10 pm and then write until 1 am. If there were two good matches on I will watch the second match instead of writing. Bed is around 1 am unless I have got lost in writing and the time does not matter. Just write until you drop time. But football is every day and my team, Ipswich Town, are now up in the Premiership League. If I have a clear day I write from noon until 2 pm - Zzzz for 2 hours, dinner, and start again at 6pm. Crazy isn't it? I love it. However, it has to stop. I am getting slower and football is taking over as my main attraction. Writing will always feature in my routine. Writing books no more apart from one project that sat silent for too many years. I will be happy when it is finished but football is already taking over. So that's it for today. The kettle has just gone on and my new teapot is loaded with real black leaf loose tea. Goodnight all and don't forget to laugh when any prominent politician promises something - anything - because they are telling a joke As the season unfolds, I find myself eagerly planning my daily schedule around the games. Typically, my writing sessions occur from 6 PM until 8 PM, allowing me to focus on my current book or blog project. After that, I immerse myself in the thrilling world of football, glued to the screen until 10 PM, when the adrenaline of the matches often compels me to extend my viewing time. If I happen to find two particularly exciting matches airing simultaneously, the allure of the second match often proves too strong to resist, leading me to forgo my writing in favor of the beautiful game. As the clock strikes 10 PM, I usually find myself in a whirlwind of emotions, cheering for my team, Ipswich Town, who have recently made their triumphant return to the Premiership League. This season feels particularly exhilarating, as the stakes are higher and the competition fiercer than ever. When I have a clear day ahead of me, I often dedicate my time to writing from noon until 2 PM. Following that, I indulge in a much-needed two-hour nap to recharge my creative batteries. After a refreshing rest, I prepare dinner and then dive back into writing at 6 PM, continuing this cycle of productivity and football fandom. It might seem a bit crazy to some, but I absolutely love this routine. The thrill of football and the joy of writing coexist in my life, each bringing its unique satisfaction. However, I have come to realize that this pattern must eventually be reevaluated. I am noticing a gradual decline in my writing speed and productivity, as the excitement of football increasingly captures my attention and becomes my primary focus. While writing will always remain a significant aspect of my daily life, the ambitious projects I once pursued, particularly my book, have taken a backseat. There is, however, one project that has been sitting dormant for far too long, and I am determined to see it through to completion. I know that I will feel a great sense of accomplishment once it is finally finished, but the magnetic pull of football continues to overshadow my writing aspirations. So, that’s it for today. The kettle has just started to boil, and I am eagerly anticipating a cup of tea brewed from my new teapot, filled with real black leaf loose tea. As I prepare to wind down for the night, I remind myself to embrace the lighter side of life. Goodnight to all, and let’s not forget to share a laugh when we hear any prominent politician make a promise—because, let’s face it, their words often feel like a punchline to a joke.
